Tom and Marion Sheehan received the American Orchid Society's Gold Medal of Achievement in 1995, the year this book was published. It features Marion Sheehan's superb illustrations, in which orchids are presented in several views to depict the different characteristics by which the genera are separated. Painted from fresh plants, the illustrations are both beautiful and botanically exact. In all, 158 genera are illustrated. Each genus receives a complete description, with a list of the more popular species, noting flowering season, habitat, and locale.
